Molly Johnson is a mixed media artist based out of Lenexa, Kansas. She was born in Omaha, Nebraska in December of 1996. Until the age of 16 she was raised in Houston, Texas. As a sophomore in high school she relocated back to the Midwest with her family where she completed high school in Overland Park, Kansas. She lived in Lawrence, KS for three years where she studied visual art at the University of Kansas. She plans to graduate in May 2019 from the University of Kansas with a Bachelors of Fine Arts. During her time there, she received awards including the Burrows Art Scholarship and the Dorris Carey Scholarship. The work she has found herself making comes much from her upbringing.
Being raised in a conservative, Catholic family Johnson provoke topics often otherwise kept quiet in her previous communities. Topics include disbelief in God, women’s sexuality, and abuse. While photography remains her favorite medium, she works with many mediums and has recently focused on collage and printmaking.
